The 2025 Kgotsofala Afrigus auction will open on the 23rd of September.
About Kgotsofala Farm
Tevrede is a cattle farm situated approximately 18 kilometres from Aliwal North on the border of the Free State and the Eastern Cape. The farm has been in operation for just over 60 years and been home to 3 generations of farmers.
In 2015 Tevrede became the home of Kgotstofala Farming company and an Afrigus stud breeder. These Angus cross Afrikaner cattle were bred especially for the tough South African climate. With their drought resistant characteristics this stud thrives in the purely grass-fed conditions which the farm offers. The Kgotsofala Afrigus stud has developed breeding stock in both red and black polled cattle with medium sized frames.
The Kgotsofala Afrigus has now developed its own unique characteristics and bloodline and compliments the country’s Afrigus breed elegantly.
In 2018, farmer Gary du Preez started the breeding of Afrigus Bulls on the farm. Using expert knowledge and a trained veterinarian’s eye he strived towards the breeding of the ideal bull for the landscape and conditions. In 2022, Kgotsofala hosted a historic first online auction making this breed accessible to all. In 2024 the auction was expanded to include heifers & cows to bring more variety and further enhance the breed’s reach
